Program Overview
The Micro-Certificate in Environmental Metrics for Sustainability Reporting is a flexible 15-week online professional development program designed for professionals and new graduates who want practical, applied skills in ESG, environmental measurement, data management, and strategy-driven sustainability reporting, with the ability to tailor learning through specialized sector-specific course options.
Micro-Certificate Structure
Courses 1 and 2: ESG Fundamentals (Required)
- 1. ESG Fundamentals and Environmental Decisions (3 weeks)
- 2. Data Gathering and Management for GHG Emissions (3 weeks)
Course 3: Electives (Choose One of Four)
Note: You may take additional elective courses during the same session or in a future offering of the Micro-Certificate at no additional tuition cost. Your $2,500 tuition includes access to any or all of these electives.
- 3a. ESG in Agribusiness (3 weeks)
- 3b. Sustainable Packaging Decision Making for Food Service and Processing (3 weeks)
- 3c. Impact of Business on Biodiversity (3 weeks)
- 3d. Sustainable Waste Management: Food Waste and Diversion (3 weeks)
Course 4: Strategy and Reporting (Required)
- 4. Strategy Creation and Sustainability Reporting (3 weeks)

- Drop requests for the full Micro-Certificate must be submitted at least 7 days before the start of Course 1.

- Sustainability Reporting & ESG Fundamentals: Build a strong foundation in ESG principles, sustainability reporting frameworks, and carbon footprint measurement (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
- Specialized Sustainability Topics: Explore sector-specific topics including ESG in agribusiness, sustainable packaging, biodiversity impacts, and food waste and diversion through your elective course.
- Environmental Data & Decision-Making: Learn to collect, manage, and analyze environmental data using Excel and Power BI to support GHG and waste reporting.

Program Costs
Cost:
$2500 Full Micro-Certificate (includes all 3 required courses and 1 electives)
$900 (Individual Course). If you decide to take the courses individually, it is recommended that you take the prerequisite courses, Course 1: ESG Fundamentals and Environmental Decisions prior to Course 2, 3 and/or Course 4.
This program qualifies for the StrongerBC Future Skills Grant.

- To earn the Micro-certificate, you are required to complete one of the following elective courses during this session.
- However, if you wish, you may take additional elective courses during the same session or in a future offering of the micro-certificate at no additional tuition cost. Your $2,500 tuition includes access to any or all of these electives.

How This Program is Delivered
Format:
To earn the Micro-Certificate, students must complete Course 1, Course 2, and Course 4 (required), plus one of the following elective courses: Course 3a, Course 3b, Course 3c, or Course 3d.
Each course spans three weeks and includes video lectures, case studies, software application demonstrations, Q&A discussions, assignments, activities, and live sessions with industry experts. Upon successfully completing all required courses, participants will receive a Micro-Certificate in Sustainability Reporting and Environmental Metrics.
Time Commitment:
Participants can work at their own pace. The total time commitment is approximately 4 hours per week, including 2 hours of video content and 2 hours of activities, assessments, and practice.
